Michael Dadap visited La Libertad Rondalla. Michael Dadap is a popular Filipino guitarist, composer, and conductor, and an influential advocate of Filipino folk music. He was influential in the creation of a world-class rondalla ensemble in the United States is also the founding music director of the Iskwelahang Rondalla (Rondalla School) of Boston, Massachusetts.[1]

The latest members of La Libertad rondalla with conductor Ian Encarnacion during their latest concert held at La Libertad Central Elementary School.

As part of the rondalla outreach, audience or interested children can request the rondalla members to hands-on with simple tutorial after the concert.

La Libertad Rondalla conducted outreach concert to elementary schools in La Libertad as part of Local Government project in preserving and reviving Filipino culture using rondalla as the medium. The Mother of La Libertad, now the House Representative of 1st District of Negros Oriental, Congresswoman Jocelyn Limkaichong is also in full support in the quest of the group in reviving Filipino culture.

La Libertad Rondalla Champion for 2 consecutive years since 2006 in the Buglasan Festival Rondalla Junior Division. Buglasan is a Provincial celebration of the Province of Negros Oriental participated by all towns and cities showcasing their resources such as culture, products or anything that is came from thier respective Local Government Unit.

Municipality of La Libertad was one of the Outreach town during the 2nd International Rondalla Festival. The PNU Rondalla, Thailand and from Mindanao are the groups to present in the outreach concert. The municipality headed by the Mayor Jocelyn Limkaichong prepared the venue completely from the arrival to the Convention Center and Sound System

Where did La Libertad Childrens Rondalla Started?

It was organized in February of 2006, Mayor Jocelyn Limkaichong initiated the rondalla training when he invited Ian Encarnacion a Voice major in Silliman University and a member of Kwerdas de Negros. Most of the newly organized group are elementary from Grade IV-V of Pio Banogon Elementary School. Municipality of La Libertad was one of the recipient of the set of Rondalla Instruments from the Provincial Government of Negros Oriental thru Board Member Mariant E. Villigas. At present, Mayor Jocelyn Limkaichong is now a House Representative of 1st District of Negros Oriental and it is one of her vision to preseve and revive Filipino culture.
The Local Chief Executive of La Libertad, Mayor Lawrence D. Limkaichong, Jr. is in full support to the rondalla group. The group is now preparing for the Buglasan 2008 Junior Rondalla Competition in which La Libertad is the defending champion for the past 2 years. Now, the group are preparing to make it a Hall of Fame.


What is Rondalla?


Ang pagpapakilala ng gitara ng mga Kastila sa Pilipinas ay naging daan upang sumulong ang paggamit ng rondalla. Ang natural na hilig ng mga Filipino sa musika ay hindi naging balakid sa mga Kastila na turuan sila at mangalap ng mga taong may galing sa pagtugtog ng instrumento. Hindi nagtagal, lumawak ang mga may nais na sumailalim sa pagsasanay sa mga instrumentong musikal tulad ng piyano, organ, biyulin, plauta at gitara. Ang mga nagnais na matutong tumugtog ng gitara ay tinuruan din ng bandurria at laud. Doon nagsimula ang grupo ng mga tumutugtog ng instrumentong de-kwerdas na tinawag nilang comparzas o rondallas.

Ang Rondalla ay naging bahagi na ng kasaysayan ng Pilipinas at naging parte na nang musikang Filipino. Ito ay kadalasang kasama sa sayawan at kantahang panlipi o di kaya ay sa mga pista, kasal o okasyong pangsibiko.
